WEBGL SUBPIXEL RETICLE — CLEARTYPE FONT CLARITY

Sub-Pixel Layout Analyzer

Examine sub-pixel geometry structures (standard RGB Stripe, inverted BGR, Gen-1/Gen-2 QD-OLED triangular layout, and LG WOLED RWBG white subpixel) to diagnose text fringing and OS font smoothing compatibility.

Sub-Pixel Geometry, Font Smoothing & Chromatic Fringing Physics

Operating system font rendering engines—such as Microsoft Windows ClearType and Linux FreeType—exploit the physical horizontal arrangement of Red, Green, and Blue sub-pixels to triple effective horizontal font resolution. By individually modulating sub-pixel luminance, font glyph edges achieve sub-pixel spatial accuracy.

Standard RGB StripeIPS & VA Benchmark

Red-Green-Blue left-to-right order. Native compatibility with Windows ClearType and macOS font smoothing.

Inverted BGR LayoutSpecialty Desktop Displays

Blue-Green-Red order. Triggers magenta/cyan text fringing unless OS subpixel direction is reconfigured.

QD-OLED TriangularGen 1/2 Quantum Dot OLED

Top-Green, Bottom-Red/Blue arrangement causing slight green top haloing on high-contrast text edges.

Browser & OS Color Management Limitations

Software-based visual evaluation patterns are subject to Web browser color space mapping (sRGB / Display P3), operating system display scaling, ICC profile overrides, and GPU driver settings. While Display Test Online utilizes hardware-accelerated WebGL 2.0 rendering pipelines, browser-based tests cannot fully replace physical hardware colorimeters or spectrophotometers (e.g., Calbrite Display Plus HL, X-Rite i1Display Pro) for color-critical prepress workflows.
